B&R’s real-time communication technology POWERLINK has been introduced to the market 20 years ago
and continuously evolved in performance and features over this period. This was done together with our
partners and managed by the Ethernet Powerlink Standardization Group (EPSG). Meanwhile, POWERLINK
and openSAFETY technologies have reached a very high level of maturity, resulting in decreased activity of
the EPSG’s technical working groups. Upcoming technologies such as OPC UA or TSN are managed by
different organizations.
Hence, in the general assembly of the EPSG, it has been decided to dissolve the user organization by March
31st, 2023.
Important note: This decision does not influence or direct anything related to product availability or does not
enforce any life-cycle activity for B&R or other POWERLINK vendors.
B&R will take over the EPSG website and we will continue to support customers and partners, whenever
required. POWERLINK continues to be our most important communication technology in the market with
many more products to come, while R&D investments have already been shifted to our future technologies.
